More About Us .....

How active are we?

The club organises its own events such as

A winter series of 'handicap' 10K races, which sees every entrant having a equal chance of winning.

Summer one mile time trials, which is not just for those speedsters but also for those who just want to measure their progress.

Summer 5K Races in Rock Park.

The summer relays with clubs based at Bideford, South Molton, Torrington, Minehead and NDAC.

Occasional organised trips to other races. 2007 saw a group going to race in Cyprus. For more local trips, coaches are put on for when enough members have entered a particular event. Forty members travelled to Weston for the Christmas Caper 10Km race. Family members are always welcome to join in with trips.

For more information:

Either join in on a club night or telephone Mike Turner (01271) 373176, or Vicky Skelton on (01271) 374939. We look forward to having your company.

Where and when do we meet?

The club meets every Tuesday night at 7.00 p.m. at the Tarka Tennis Centre, Barnstaple. This is just beyond the North Devon Leisure Centre - i.e. pass the Leisure Centre on your left and continue straight on for a few hundred metres.

There are also a training sessions on Thursday evenings, again at 7.00 p.m. at the Tarka Tennis Centre.

History of the club

The club has been in existence for more than 20 years

In the 1980s, at the height of the marathon boom, the club was known as North Devon Marathon Club. Membership for this year reached just short of 130, with a near equal split of men and women. Both ends of the age spectrum are represented, from youth to the retired.

The club is affiliated to the South of England AAA and the Devon AAA and draws many benefits from this status.

The club is run by the membership with the nomination and election of committee members taking place through the annual general meetings.
