Record membership

It is great to be able to start off by reporting that membership of the club has reached an all-time high of around 170! It is a real delight to welcome so may new members. Thanks to everyone who has helped spread the word that this is a really friendly club, catering for all levels of running ability, from those of us just in it for the fun and to keep the weight in check, right up to the dizzy heights of those in line for national selection.

Most importantly, do keep an eye out for newcomers, there are several each week. Have a chat and make sure they know what is going on and that they have a suitable group to run with. Remember what it was like when you first came along? With the place so crowded, as it is when folks arrive on a club night, it would be all too easy for those coming down for the first time not to be noticed.

Thanks to all who contributed to this edition of the club newsletter. It would be great to hear from some of our newer members about any issue concerning the club for the next edition early in the New Year. It is a club newsletter, written by members – I’m just the chap who puts it together. My email address is:

The North Devon Hospice

The Club Recently presented a cheque for £1 000 to the North Devon Hospice. We are delighted to be working with the Hospice more closely than ever. In particular they will be helping us publicise this year’s Braunton 10.

After the tragic death of Albert, our Club President, just over two years ago, it was decided to dedicate the Braunton 10 to his memory. Val, his widow, suggested that we make a donation from the money raised to the Hospice, as a worthy, local charity. She recently sent a lovely letter of appreciation to Micky Turner, our club secretary, for the support we have managed to give.

North Devon Hospice Santa Fun Run

The Santa Fun Run, now in its 5th year, is an ever-popular event where men, women and children can dress up in their festive gear and enjoy a bracing winter run.

At no other time will you get to be part of a group of over 100 Santas pounding the streets of Barnstaple on a lovely scenic route.

The Santa Fun Run is for anyone aged 12 or over and the course of 3.2 miles can be run, jogged, walked, skipped or even hopped! However you get round is fine by us, so long as you enjoy the event.

The event is run in conjunction with Barnstaple Town Football Club, which also acts as the start and finish line.
